Adopt-A-Cop

The Adopt-A-Cop program was founded in 1999 by Chandler Christian School Administrator Marie Wilson as a response to the first Chandler police officer killed in the line of duty. Marie shared, “Having grown up in Chandler, I remembered waving at the officers as they patrolled and protected the city. I began to ask the Lord what we could do as a Christian school to encourage our officers. Immediately, Adopt-A-Cop was born.”

The objective of the program is to reach out to the Chandler community and appreciate our local police officers. The police department provides a list of officers' names and students are assigned officers to pray for. The students pray for and correspond with the officers, letting them know they are being covered in prayer.

Each year the officers are invited to our campus to visit with the students who have adopted them. The officers answer any questions the students have and share wonderful stories with them. The department brings the D.A.R.E. car, the Canine Unit, and the Mobile Command Station to show the students. The event provides an opportunity for the students and officers to meet, fostering an excellent relationship between the students and the officers.

‚ÄčThe program aligns with the biblical mandate: “Here are my directions: Pray much for others; plead for God’s mercy upon them; give thanks for all He is doing for them. Pray in this way for kings and all others who are in authority over us, or are in places of high responsibility” (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

In 2008, the City of Chandler recognized this exceptional program by issuing an official P
roclamation of support.
